Najifa Farhat
Fellow
Originally from Dhaka, Bangladesh, Najifa has been an environmental journalist for over three years. She graduated in Spring 2024 with a master’s in Environment and Natural Resource Journalism from the University of Montana. During this period, she freelanced for several local outlets and completed reporting internships with the Flathead Lake Biological Station and Montana Public Radio.
Najifa intends to explore issues such as energy transition, public lands, and environmental concerns in rural areas, inspired by her master’s project on a carbon sequestration project in Eastern Montana. Despite lacking formal education in environment or science, she is deeply motivated to pursue environmental journalism due to her homeland’s vulnerability to the impacts of climate change. Najifa aspires to illuminate the stories of individuals worldwide grappling with the extensive effects of climate change, with a special emphasis on South Asia.
